Mindfulness Skills for Mental Health Professionals
With Arnie Kozak
February 20 - 22, 2018
IDEAL FOR: All levels including beginners
Along with the growing empirical database supporting the value of mindfulness practice, there is a deepening recognition in the healthcare community that mindfulness-based interventions can deliver significant clinical value for a variety of clients. Numerous name-brand therapies have been developed including Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), and many others. These interventions share in common core mindfulness skills such as the development of acceptance, compassion, self-monitoring, and self-regulation.
This workshop will introduce participants to the basics of mindfulness meditation and application in clinical practice that will help them to be more present while simultaneously protecting them from professional burnout. We will explore basic Buddhist psychology, the seven principles of applied mindfulness and the Story Art™ Method that combines mindfulness, narrative journaling, and creative process for getting unstuck and dis-identifying from painful stories. Conceptual models, metaphors, humor, anecdotes, and poetry will make these teachings accessible.
Retreat objectives include:
- Learning and applying the basics of mindfulness and mindfulness meditation
- Gaining a practical, working understanding of mindful communication skills
- Acquiring basic knowledge of the neuroscience of mindfulness
- Learning a repertoire of metaphors for mindfulness that can be used to implement your own mindfulness practice and the clients you work with
- Developing more robust clinical presence, empathy, and compassion
Tuition is $250 plus accommodations.
